Our Story
Lavandula Strings was founded in 2021 in the beautiful mountain landscape of Boulder, Colorado by violinist Dr. Joy Yamaguchi. What began as a small collective of musicians and dear friends (Meggie, Jordan, & Kat) who loved performing together, quickly grew into something much bigger. At the heart of it was a simple joy: sharing music with others and creating meaningful moments through live performance.
Since those early days, Lavandula Strings has had the privilege of performing for hundreds of couples and events, bringing elegant live music to weddings, celebrations, and special gatherings. Our musicians have also shared stages with world-renowned artists and performed for celebrity events and distinguished audiences, while maintaining the same care, warmth, and artistry that defined those first string quartet rehearsals.
Today, Lavandula Strings continues to grow as a community of exceptional musicians dedicated to making every moment feel personal, beautiful, and unforgettable. Curated with love and joy, always.
Joy Yamaguchi
Founder, Director, & Violinist
Dr. Joy Yamaguchi is the violinist and founder behind Lavandula Strings, a curated ensemble providing elegant live music for weddings and special events.
Over the past decade, her work as a violinist has taken her to concert halls and events around the world—from Prague and Vienna to Chile and South Korea. Along the way, she has collaborated with artists such as Lauryn Hill, Yandel, and Yvette Young of the band, Covet.
Joy has also worked closely with Grammy Award–winning musicians and with Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society in New York City, producing events featuring classical music’s top artists.
Inspired by her experiences performing and producing concerts with world-class musicians, Joy founded Lavandula Strings to bring that same level of artistry, professionalism, and care to weddings and special events. The ensemble brings together exceptional musicians to thoughtfully shape the musical atmosphere of each celebration.
Lavandula Strings works closely with couples and planners to create seamless, meaningful musical experiences that elevate every moment of an event.
Lavandula Strings is proud to be an AAPI woman-owned small business, joyfully celebrating every love. The ensemble serves Colorado, the NYC Tri-State area, Monterey Bay, California, and beyond.
